The truth is, you don't need salt and oil to make food taste good. Yes, oil and salt can enhance the flavor, but you don't NEED them to cook delicious food!
I usually eat rice, potatoes, or corn with some kind of sauce for dinner.
One of my favorite sauces is this tomato basil sauce. My favorite way to eat it is mixed into rice.
I like to pair it with beans and steamed greens - how delicious!
In the picture below, I made the same tomato basil sauce, and then added lentils, and then pureed the lentils and sauce together. This made the sauce thicker and gave it a creamier texture!
Eating HCLF or raw til 4 doesn't have to be boring, spice up your food and add some salt and oil free sauces!
Ingredients:
- 4 large chopped organic tomatoes - or 8 organic chopped Campari tomatoes
- 1 clove minced garlic
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 handful fresh organic basil
- a few sprigs of chives
- a few fresh leaves of thyme
- a few fresh leaves of rosemary
Directions:
In a cast iron skillet, mix all of the ingredients and stir over a low heat for 8-10 minutes. If the tomatoes begin to dry out, you can add a few tbsp of water, but usually the tomatoes have enough water that you don't need to add anything. If you'd like to make the sauce creamier (like the picture above), add cooked lentils and puree the lentils with the sauce. Enjoy!
